Dr. Willem Boer, PhD
Before qualifying as a Medical Doctor at Erasmus University Rotterdam, the Netherlands, Dr. Willem Boer worked as teaching coordinator and university lecturer for the Department of Internal Medicine. He completed his training for internal medicine at the University of Antwerp and was certified as a nephrologist in 2001 and as an intensivist in 2003. He then worked as an internist-nephrologist-intensivist in Atrium Medical Centre (now Zuyderland), Heerlen, the Netherlands and, in 2006, was appointed Medical Lead of the dialysis department, becoming Chairman of the Internal Medicine Partnership in 2008.
Since 2010 he works primarily as an intensivist in ZOL Genk. He publishes regularly and is a reviewer for several peer reviewed journals. In 2023 he successfully defended his PhD thesis on citrate anticoagulation in CVVH. His special interests include renal replacement therapy and therapeutic plasmapheresis in the ICU. He is an alumnus of the European Health Leadership programme, INSEAD.
