Locoregional Anesthesia
The Locoregional Anesthesia Fellowship at Ziekenhuis Oost-Limburg, supported by NYSORA, presents a remarkable opportunity for anesthesiologists to specialize in regional anesthesia and acute pain management. With a duration of one year, this fellowship provides comprehensive training with a focus on clinical excellence, research, and education.
Key highlights of the fellowship:
- Extensive Clinical Exposure: With over 10,000 procedures annually, fellows gain hands-on experience, primarily in orthopedic surgeries, but also in abdominal, gynecological, and thoracic surgeries. Procedures include a variety of regional anesthesia techniques such as:
- Upper and Lower Extremity Blocks
- Fascial Plane Blocks
- Paravertebral Blocks
- TAP Blocks
- Thoracic Epidurals
- Pectoralis, Quadratus Lumborum, and Serratus Plane Blocks
- Interventional analgesia techniques for ERAS protocols
- Advanced Research and Academic Opportunities: Fellows are encouraged to engage in scientific research, with the opportunity to present at national and international conferences. Participation in academic activities, such as contributing to research papers and book chapters, is strongly supported.
- NYSORA Collaboration: As a fellow, you’ll benefit from NYSORA’s structured training program, including lectures and workshops on ultrasound-guided peripheral nerve blocks using NYSORA’s 5-step learning approach. This collaboration also provides access to advanced educational content, equipment, and techniques.
- Teaching and Leadership Development: In the latter stages of the fellowship, participants actively supervise assistants and residents, allowing them to develop their teaching skills. Fellows also participate as junior instructors in NYSORA workshops, enhancing their presentation and teaching abilities in a live international setting.
- International Environment: The team consists of experts from various countries, and knowledge of English is mandatory, while Dutch language proficiency is preferred.
- Multisite Training: Fellows will rotate across three campuses (Campus St Jan, Campus Maas en Kempen, and Campus St. Barbara Hospital Lanaken) to gain diverse locoregional anesthesia experience.
This fellowship is ideal for anesthesiologists looking to excel in regional anesthesia, contribute to scientific advancements, and develop leadership and teaching skills in a global setting.
