Intensive Care Medicine
At Ziekenhuis Oost-Limburg Genk, we are highly dedicated to our intensive care medicine educational program, offering a comprehensive Intensive Care residency and fellowship program designed to prepare candidates for the specialist title in Intensive Care Medicine.
Each year, we care for approximately 3,000 patients in our Intensive Care Unit (ICU), presenting a broad and diverse range of pathologies, including both medical and surgical cases. Our department is equipped with all the advanced facilities expected of a large non-academic tertiary center, such as cardiac surgery, ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation), and interventional radiology.
In addition to the inter-university postgraduate course in Intensive Care Medicine, our educational program includes specialized lectures and workshops with a full schedule available on our website, ensuring a well-rounded learning experience. Furtermore, the program incorporates daily clinical teahcing sessions, journal clubs, problem-based learning sessions, weekly microbiology rounds and hands-on technical skill training essential an intensivist. This structured approach ensures that you gain both the theoretical knowledge and the practical expertise required to excel in intensive care.
Clinical research experience is a key component of our program, as we believe it is essential for the development of future intensivists. During your fellowship, you will have the opportunity to participate in ongoing research projects, and, if desired, you can initiate your own research project in collaboration with an experienced member of our team.
