Intensive Care Medicine
The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Ziekenhuis Oost-Limburg is a state-of-the-art facility offering advanced critical care for a diverse patient population. Our ICU features 36 beds across two units—12 and 24 beds respectively—each equipped with cutting-edge monitoring and mechanical ventilation capabilities. With approximately 3,000 admissions annually, we are staffed by a dedicated team of 150 nurses and 4 physiotherapists, ensuring seamless care around the clock.
Our ICU manages a wide range of pathologies, from (neuro)surgical, interventional radiological procedures and trauma cases to pulmonary and renal issues. As a recognized cardiac surgery center, we provide life-saving therapies like venoarterial (VA) and Venovenous (VV) Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) for patients with severe cardiac and respiratory failure. Additionally, renal replacement therapies as well as plasma exchange therapy, are readily available to meet the diverse needs of our patient population.
The ICU operates under a closed-model system, led by a team of intensivists and anesthesiologists with specialized training. This structure ensures continuous, high-quality care, allowing us to respond promptly to the needs of our critically ill patients.
