Emergency Medicine
The Emergency Department at Ziekenhuis Oost-Limburg treats over 50,000 patients each year in a highly specialized unit by a dedicated team of emergency physicians. Equipped with two Mobile Urgency Group (MUG) vehicles and a Paramedical Intervention Team (PIT), we respond to nearly 2,000 emergency calls annually.
As a DGU-accredited trauma center, we serve as a tertiary centre for supraregional critical care and a key regional hub for neurosurgery and neuroradiology. Furthermore, Ziekenhuis Oost-Limburg is a cardiac intervention and surgery center for North-East Limburg and offers hyperbaric oxygen therapy for selected patients.
This dynamic environment provides an extensive exposure to a broad range of pathologies, both in-hospital and pre-hospital, with comprehensive training opportunities for residents and fellows. Our emergency department is fully integrated with Critical Services (Emergency Medicine, Intensive Care, Anesthesia), enabling seamless coordination within a unified training and care framework. This approach ensures consistent, high-quality care while offering comprehensive training opportunities in emergency medicine.
